Sports Extravaganza

On the 6th November the Year 5 and 6 children went through to Balclutha Recreation Centre for the sports extravaganza. Everyone from our school was put into a group with some other children from other schools. Each team had a different leader and group name. There were about thirty six groups and there were three groups at every sport or activity. We took part in a range of different sports and activities both inside and outside, some of which involved water. There were twelve different activities running. Some of the activities were tyre pull, obstacle course, hockey skills and vortex throw. At the end of the day Mitch, one of the sports extravaganza’s organisers, told us who got the most wins or points and then that team got to stand and they got a big clap. The children felt really excited when they left Milton on the bus and couldn’t wait to get started. Everyone had a great time taking part in these activities. Afterwards everyone was exhausted. On the Wednesday of the same week the juniors went and took part in the sports extravaganza and had just as much fun.

Ganesha Assembly

Today was Room 8's Assembly item. We shared some facts about India.

Hayley played the Goddess Parvadi and Tyler was Ganesha; the son she made from clay.

Bobby played Lord Shiva and came home to find Ganesha guarding the gate of his home. He chopped off Ganesha's head.

Jeremy played Ganesha brought back to life with the head of an elephant.

Speech Day Super Stars

What an amazing job you did today at Speech Day Will and Makayla. You really did Room 8 proud. You tackled the gritty and terrible problem of homelessness in New Zealand Will and gave us all something to think about. Makayla - I think you gave all us teachers something to think about with your topic of Stopping the Homework Cycle! Great job, you two!

A Busy Day in Room 8

Today started off with a visit from Halo, Molly's pet pup. Halo loved meeting all the children in Room 8 and we learnt some interesting facts about Halo and how she arrived in Dunedin on an aeroplane, from the North Island, with her brother who also lives in Dunedin.

,

Will went the extra mile with his research on Germany. He brought in an amazing poster full of facts about this interesting country. He had also baked some Liebkuchen: delicious iced german spice biscuits. We had a lovely shared morning tea whilst listening to Will talk us through his terrific poster which is now on display in the classroom. Awesome work Will. Here is the recipe if you want to try them at home.

Here is Will at Morning Tea Time finishing off one of the delicious Liebkuchens.

Room 8 gave a good send off to our cross country competitors Hayley, Kyle, Bobby, Ethan and Henry. We crossed our fingers and toes - as we wished them luck for their races.
