Week 3 already!
Starting our new maths topic: time.
We are learning about seasons and how many days in the months of the year.
We are also looking at digital and analogue time.
Our time unit ties in quite nicely with what Amy is teaching us in Mandarin (seasons).
Rose practicing netball at lunch time.
Ethan and Ranui are enjoying their first lunch time practice.
So good to see the Room 8ers getting out there and enjoying netball.
Xavier loves being out amongst the action...
On the field some of the boys have an impromptu game of rugby...
Here we are back in class working on our theme: tackling the issue of rubbish in the playground...
One of our ideas for a poster reminder children to put their rubbish in the bin. Caption: If you are a binner you are a winner!

So are Ben and Henry...
Here Jahqeil follows Jamie's directions for a 5km bike ride around Dunedin using a scale map.
Sophie and Will give directions to Hayley and Molly for their 5km bike ride.
Xavier has been focusing on directional language; here he is watching a car ride through Dunedin.

Term 3
Back at school for Term 3 and what a great term it is going to be. Mrs Grace is really excited about getting to know us all in Room 8 and we have some really interesting topics lined up.
Our focus is 'Culture and Community' so we are going to look at ways we can help our own community and also research some other cultures and communities around the world.
On Tuesday, in Mandarin, we learnt how to say the seasons of the year.
In Maths we are learning about co-ordinates and maps which ties in nicely with our work on community.
We have had quite a celebratory week with Xavier and Sophie both having a birthday.

Life Education
The Life Education bus came to Milton Primary school
recently. Pip and Harold, the puppet giraffe, were teaching us important words
like “Identity” and “Reputation.” Identity means how you see yourself and
reputation means how other people see you. We talked about how we need to keep
our behavior “above the line” which is where all sorts of positive behaviours
and attitudes can be found. Everything we discussed linked in nicely with our
school values of “Respect and Responsibility.” Our last session was spent on
dealing with the issue of cyber safety and we learnt some important tips about
how to keep ourselves safe when we are online. We all had fun in the Life
Education bus and we look forward to it returning again next year!!! J
